Meet Jaymie!

Posted on November 1, 2022 by Zach Opalko

About Jaymie

Life’s Work is much more than providing clients a place for assembly, kitting, and mailing jobs. It is about finding your inner passion, jump-starting your ambition, and ultimately finding yourself within society. One extraordinary Life’sWork client, Jaymie, demonstrates a great example of what our mission is all about. Beginning with our youth program, Jaymie molded herself through perseverance and eventually found the confidence to move into an apartment on her own. Enthusiastic and willing to try different opportunities through the various Life’sWork programs, Jaymie was able to experience different job opportunities through business partners such as Gamma Sports, Little Earth Productions, the University of Pittsburgh, and Coen Oil. Jaymie explains that through all of her different involvements, Gamma Sports was her favorite, and is eager to go back. Life’sWork of Western PA’s Coordinator of Adult Services, Ed O’Rourke mentions that “empowerment” would be a perfect word to describe Jaymie as she enabled herself to take public transportation & move into an apartment all by herself. Whenever an opportunity arises, she will find the ambition and seize control of it.

Safe in Style

Posted on July 22, 2020 by Babs Sefiane

Life’sWork would like to extend our deepest expression of gratitude and thanks to the North Pittsburgh Quilters Guild (NPQG). NPQG generously donated over 300 unique hand sewn masks. They arrived right when we needed them the most! This helps us to ensure the safety of our clients and staff as they begin to return to our facilities. Thank you for offering us the resources we need to operate with the safety of our clients in mind!

Requiring masks in our facilities is just one of the ways we are taking action to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We implemented temperature checks and screenings for everyone who enters our facilities and are practicing diligent cleaning and sanitization for all surfaces and areas. In addition, work stations are set up for social distancing and we implemented limits on the number of clients in the building at once. We also developed policies for staff safety to limit potential spread of the virus.

Our clients were excited to come back to work, and we want to ensure that all of our services operate with their safety at the forefront. It is extremely important to us that our clients and staff stay and remain as healthy as possible; we cannot thank NPQG enough for helping us to implement our safety policies in style. Lots of time is spent cutting, assembling and sewing the masks and we appreciate all of your hard work, time and generosity!

Life’sWork Clients Honored for Years of Service

Posted on June 28, 2019 by Babs Sefiane

Life’sWork invited all clients and their friends and families for this year’s Client Appreciation Ceremony and Luncheon. On June 7, we honored 22 clients for their years of dedicated service.

Day in and day out these individuals have the opportunity to further develop their workplace skills while working at Life’sWork and gain pride and dignity, not to mention earn paycheck.

Work anniversaries are an important achievement. The luncheon was a proud moment for all of the honorees as well as a celebration for everyone in attendance. Our honorees looked forward to the event all year. They have a remarkable combined total of over 330 years of working at Life’sWork.

The annual Client Appreciation ceremony is a momentous occasion held every spring. Program specialists and other staff members who work closely with the clients get a chance to praise each honoree in front of family, friends, and staff. Above all, this event gives us the opportunity to celebrate all of our clients and their journey to achieve independence.

Life’sWork Luau 2018

Posted on August 20, 2018 by imagebox

Life’sWork of Western PA strives to create an atmosphere where our clients can grow personally by honing their work skills as well as their social skills. We have an in house event every two months to do just that. It gives the clients a chance to really let loose and have some fun with their coworkers outside of the day to day work routine.

Friday, August 17 was the first ever Life’sWork Luau! Our clients enjoyed not just dancing but fun games as well! We had pineapple bowling, coconut cornhole, and what luau would be complete without a round of limbo?

And of course, it wouldn’t be a party without food! We would like to thank our neighbors at  Pizza Care for donating pizza for the clients. It was so popular clients were lining up for seconds.

The first Life’sWork Luau was a huge success and we’re already thinking of ideas for the next one!
