Life’sWork of Western PA Announces Grant Award from the PPG Foundation

Pittsburgh, PA (January 30, 2024) — Life’sWork of Western PA has received grant funding from the PPG Foundation to enhance vocational skills development opportunities for individuals with disabilities and those facing other barriers to employment. Life’sWork of Western PA is a nonprofit leader that has been providing services to families in crisis and individuals in its community with disabilities and other barriers to employment throughout southwestern Pennsylvania for over 96 years.

The PPG Foundation grant funds will be used to provide personalized skills and interest assessments as well as focused vocational training opportunities using real-life simulated work environments located in Life’sWork’s facilities in Pittsburgh. These opportunities will support Life’sWork clients to build greater confidence, improve functional skills needed for job functions, and increase individuals’ potential for greater vocational independence.

“The PPG Foundation grant will make a powerful impact on many lives,” says Timothy Parks, president and chief executive officer of Life’sWork of Western PA. “With support from the PPG Foundation, we are helping individuals build skills to achieve meaningful employment—providing hope and fulfilling dreams. We are truly thankful to the PPG Foundation for investing in these life-changing opportunities.”

“Partnering with Life’sWork is an extension of the PPG Foundation’s commitment to invest in workforce development initiatives that provide training and opportunities for future workers,” said Malesia Dunn, executivedirector, PPG Foundation and corporate global social responsibility. “We support Life’sWork programs that aim to make training and learning accessible to all, and support efforts to expand employment opportunities for the individuals they serve in the Pittsburgh region.”

Life’sWork of Western PA offers programs and employment support services, including vocational assessments, job shadowing and work-based learning experiences, placement and follow-on support, as well as customized training programs for individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment.
