E-News from Life’sWork of Western PA

Just What the Doctor Ordered

Patients, family members and visitors to UPMC Children’s Hospital got a cool treat on a hot May day, courtesy of Peters Township High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Club and Life’sWork’s Ben & Jerry’s Traveling Scoop Shop.

The FBLA club was this year’s winner of our fundraising competition — a contest for schools who book Life’sWork’s Ben & Jerry’s Traveling Scoop Shop to sell ice cream at their facility. It’s a fundraiser because the host group earns a portion of the sales for each scoop sold at each event; the Peters Township FBLA donated their

earnings to the State Project Cystic Fibrosis. FBLA Advisors Kathie Sekely and Vivian Lane (pictured above) were instrumental in partnering with Life’sWork on this initiative.

For their efforts, the group won a “Free Cone Day”  for up to 600 students, which they generously donated to the patients at Children’s Hospital for their Sun N Fun Day on May 30.

“This was truly a win-win-win community service project,” said Sekely. “While our students were getting some euphoric ice cream, they were also giving back and making a difference by raising money for Cystic Fibrosis and supporting Life’sWork’s youth training programs at the Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop, as well.”
